Keseana’s story: Tech Talent Accelerator program

Before Generation, Keseana worked in retail and customer service, but was unemployed when she discovered Generation via an organisational partner, Multiverse. She applied right away, and with this new energy for tech began taking free HTML, Codecademy, and Codewars courses online and watching YouTube videos about the daily tasks of software engineers.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM

Keseana got significant value from the behaviour and mindset training modules in the Generation program. Behavioural interview questions used to make her stumble, but now she communicates confidently about time management and project planning. She also appreciated how the instructors helped her identify her natural talents and strengths, like her curiosity and willingness to try new things.

On the technical side, she enjoyed learning front-end development tasks like learning how to use Javascript to manipulate HTML and CSS. The assessments were always useful and the instructor gave her personal feedback.

She participated in many of the interview & CV support sessions with Generation and began building a portfolio of her projects. In all of her interviews, she felt highly prepared for the technical and behavioural questions. She’s now an active member of Coding Black Females.

LAUNCHING HER CAREER AT SALESFORCE

Keseana will be starting at Salesforce as a Solutions Consultant this Autumn. She will be working with clients to design custom solutions for their sales teams. In addition to using her experience to solve problems at Salesforce, she will be pursuing a part-time BSc Honours Degree apprenticeship with ADA College for Digital Skills.
