Overview

Kickstart your career as a Solar Installer – this programme will be a mixture of in-person and online learning, in-person learning will take place at the Green House near Bethnal Green station.

Do you like working outdoors in a hands-on role? Looking for an in-demand career with lots of jobs and progression opportunities while having a positive environmental impact? If yes – Solar Installer is the career for you!

The UK solar industry is booming and the demand for skilled solar installers is rapidly growing. That means there are lots of great job opportunities on offer for you!

Competitive starting salaries of £22 – 25,000 per year with opportunities to quickly progress to £30 – 35,000 with a few years of experience.

On this 6-week programme you’ll get all the knowledge and skills you need to kickstart your career and land your first solar role.

At the end, you’ll have a guaranteed interview for the job, which we will help you prepare for with CV writing workshops, 1:1 mentoring and mock interviews.

Who is this programme for?

This programme is open to anyone aged 18+ who is living in or near London and currently unemployed or working on a zero-hours contract.

You don’t need any qualifications or experience to apply

We are looking for learners who:

    • Enjoy working outdoors in a hands-on physical role
    • Enjoy working with others in a team
    • Are comfortable working at heights
  • Full driver’s license preferred

Application form

20 minutes

Share some details about your circumstances with us so we can let you know if you are eligible for the programme. This will involve uploading copies of documents that demonstrate your right to work in the UK and employment status.

Information Session – Find out more!

2 hours

A live, interactive information session. If you are unable to attend, or this event has passed when you apply, we will send you a recording.

In this session, you will:

– Gain an insight into a career in Solar and hear from an employer
– Receive an overview of what you’ll learn from the course instructor
– Learn about the Generation experience from previous participants
– Find out more about our Solar programme and next steps

Group activity & Interview

1 hour

Book onto an interactive Teams meeting with fellow applicants to take part in a fun group activity together that looks at your communication and teamwork skills. Following the group task, you will complete your individual one-on-one interview with a member of the Generation team so that we can find out more about you and your reasons for wanting to join the bootcamp.

Document Uploads

10 minutes

Upload documents to confirm your Right to Work in the UK and your current Employment Status, along with Proof of Address. We will need to see these documents before we can give you an offer for the course.

Mentor Conversation

30 minutes

If the programme seems like a good fit for you after your interview and group activity, we will invite you to have a conversation with someone from our mentorship team to find out what support you may need if successful in gaining a place on the bootcamp.

Offer & Welcome

2 weeks

If successful, we’ll make you a conditional offer to join our 10 week bootcamp in time for the welcome period, which starts 2 weeks before the course start date. During the welcome period, you’ll take part in a few online activities to get to know the amazing bootcamp staff who will be supporting you throughout your training.
