Asia

Before joining the Generation bootcamp, Asia had just moved to the UK and was struggling to secure a role in healthcare due to a lack of UK-based experience as well as facing various barriers to employment including speaking English as an additional language and belonging to an ethnic minority group. This had a profound impact on her wellbeing.

“I was actively seeking healthcare roles to stay connected with my passion while working towards becoming a registered doctor in the UK. However, despite sending numerous applications, I struggled to find a job. My biggest challenge was the need for UK-based experience, which most employers required. I found it it difficult to break into the healthcare field in the UK, leading to feelings of stress and frustration. It was a new environment for me, and I had to overcome the challenge of adjusting and finding the right opportunities to pursue my career goals.”

Asia completed a 4 week Generation Healthcare bootcamp in June 2023. It helped her develop her skills specifically for the UK healthcare system, prepare her for the workplace, and profoundly impacted her wellbeing and confidence.

“The topics covered on the course deeply resonated with my core values and my passion for delivering compassionate, equitable care. While improving my personal skills, understanding different systems of UK healthcare, and adapting to role-playing exercises were challenging, these very challenges made the learning process both practical and engaging.”

“The Generation bootcamp has been transformative for me. It helped me rebuild my confidence and provided a supportive environment where I could learn and grow both professionally and personally.”

After completing the course, Asia rapidly secured a band 2 healthcare assistant role at University College London Hospital, a leading London hospital, after her first interview. She has since progressed to a band 3 role after just 8 months.

“I enjoy the strong support system from my colleagues and the collaborative environment in my current role. The opportunity for future progression within the NHS is also exciting, as I am motivated to continue growing in my career. Having secured a Band 3 healthcare assistant role after just eight months, I am eager to continue advancing my career in a high-paced environment. The prospect of gaining more experience and working towards becoming a registered doctor in the UK is incredibly motivating.”

Not only has Asia secured a job and new career, but her day to day life has changed unrecognisably.

“Gaining employment has significantly improved my financial stability and given me the ability to not to worry about my day-to-day expenditures as I plan for the future. It has had a positive impact on my mental health, as I now feel more secure and fulfilled in my professional life. This role has also renewed my sense of purpose and determination to continue pursuing my long-term goal of becoming a registered doctor. Being able to support my family and contribute to our wellbeing has brought me great happiness.”
