Join Generation’s free bootcamp to build your confidence in a supportive environment and land your first job in IT Support with the tools to progress into in-demand cyber security roles within 3-5 years.

What jobs could I do after completing the programme?

This programme trains you to become a IT Support Analyst- other job titles of recent graduates include Helpdesk Analyst and Technical Analyst.

If you choose to go onto specialise in Cyber Security, you could progress to roles including Cyber Security Analyst and Penetration Tester within 5 years of starting your career in IT Support.

Who is this programme for?

This programme is open to anyone aged 19+ as at 31st August 2023 who is living in Yorkshire and currently unemployed or working on a zero-hours contract.

You don’t need any qualifications or experience to apply and we encourage applications from groups under-represented in the tech industry – particularly women, those without university degrees and those aged under 30.

We are looking for learners who:

  • enjoy working with IT hardware and software
  • like to help people and have an understanding of good customer service
  • are enthusiastic about sustaining a great career in IT

How it works:

    • Free training: Over 9 weeks, you’ll learn how to successfully launch your career in IT Support and the skills needed with our dedicated Curriculum team.
    • Cyber Security: learn specific security technical skills around networking, configuring accounts and many more to help you stand out from the crowd.
    • Free IT support – if you need a laptop, webcam, or internet connectivity to help you access the boot-camp, we’ll provide it while you study, free of charge
    • Mentoring (on programme and 6 months after): You will receive one to one mentoring support throughout the programme and for 6 months after to support your journey int employment.
    • Connect with employers: At the end of the programme, we will connect you with employers with live vacancies and help you with your employability such as CV writing and mock interviews.

Career paths

    • Cyber Security pathways –  we will teach you the different career pathways and qualifications so you could be looking at a job as a cyber security analyst or penetration tester within 5 years of your first job in IT Support.
    • Enhance your earning potential – IT Support specialists with cyber security skills can earn £10-20k more after just 5 years of experience

  • Currently living in West Yorkshire, York, Selby, Harrogate or Barnsley

  1. 10 minutes 1

    Application Form

    Fill out some quick details about yourself to confirm your eligibility. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you'll then go through to the "Your Details" section so we can find out a little bit more about you, to enable us to provide the right support and advice.

  2. 2 hours 2

    Information Session – Find out more!

    A live, interactive information session. If you are unable to attend, or this event has passed when you apply, we will send you a recording.

    In this session, you will:

    - Gain an insight into a career in IT Support and hear from an employer
    - Receive an overview of what you'll learn from the course instructor
    - Learn about the Generation experience from previous participants
    - Find out more about our IT Support programme and next steps

  3. 1 hour 3

    Group Task & Interview

    Book onto an interactive zoom meeting with fellow applicants to take part in a fun group activity together that looks at your communication and teamwork skills. Following the group task, you will complete your individual one-on-one interview with a member of the Generation team so that we can find out more about you and your reasons for wanting to join the bootcamp.

    IT Support Task

    Please complete an online IT Support task for us to find out more about your existing IT knowledge.

  5. 10 minutes 5

    Document Uploads

    Upload some documents to confirm your Right to Work in the UK and your current Employment Status, along with Proof of Address. We will need to see these documents before we can give you an offer for the course.

  6. 30 minutes 6

    Mentor Conversation

    If the programme seems like a good fit for you after your interview and group activity, we will invite you to have a conversation with someone from our mentorship team to find out what support you may need if successful in gaining a place on the bootcamp.

  7. 2 weeks 7

    Offer & Welcome

    If successful, we'll make you a conditional offer to join our 9 week bootcamp in time for the welcome period, which starts 2 weeks before the course start date. During the welcome period, you'll take part in a few online activities to get to know the amazing bootcamp staff who will be supporting you throughout your training.
