Never tell yourself you can’t do something, and if you do, think of me and what I have achieved. I truly believe that with Generation behind you and a willingness to try, you can achieve almost anything.
Before joining Generation, I worried desperately about my future. I struggled with agoraphobia, anxiety, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder, but I saw light at the end of the tunnel after going through 3 years of intensive therapy. I was ready to find work but I struggled due to my lack of work experience and barebones CV. I found myself frustrated and stuck. When I was just about ready to throw in the towel, I came across Generation. I applied because I thought I had nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Generation not only welcomed me with open arms, but they saw something inside of me that I was not sure I would ever see in myself again. Confidence and drive. On my first day, I was a bag of nerves. I was truly lucky to have such a wonderful and funny teacher as well as brilliant, bright and funny classmates. The lessons provided insight into the world of IT and the customer service role plays did wonders for my confidence. It prepared me for the world of work and gave me the ability to communicate freely and confidently with the outside world. I could not have done any of this without the loving help, support and concern of my wonderful mentor. Our weekly sessions helped me to grow more in confidence each day and better myself.
If Generation had not been helpful enough, they were also kind enough to find employers for me to have interviews with. Due to the interview prep, C.V workshops and mentorship, I felt readier than I would ever be. I had the tools! I am incredibly happy now because I have truly found the perfect job. My employer has been supportive about my needs and they have helped me to settle into remote working.
I am now a Support Technician Apprentice and I am thoroughly enjoying it! I am training to be an Azure Cloud Specialist. I know that the sky’s the limit and I know I am more than capable.
