Byron | AWS re/Start
Byron took part in the first ever Generation UK bootcamp in 2019 in London where he trained as an AWS Cloud Practitioner. He had previously been seeking an entry level tech role or an apprenticeship, but without success.
In his own words: “I was unsure of what skills I needed to get in tech roles in the city. I had little experience and I struggled a lot in interviews, I didn’t practice so most of the time I was unprepared and therefore unsuccessful.”
Byron speaks highly of his experience on programme, describing the technical education as “exceptional” and of the long-lasting impact of Generation’s behaviour and mindset curriculum: “Many others on my cohort would agree that the Growth Mindset is what really made things click for us and I personally refer back to this principle often.”
“I felt everyone at Generation wanted us to succeed – it made things feel so achievable even though many of us had little technical knowledge prior… it was such a supportive environment and a fantastic place to learn.”
After graduating from the bootcamp, Byron interviewed with Generation’s Employer Partner Infinity Works and achieved his goal of gaining a role in the industry as an Associate Consultant.
From there his career has gone from strength to strength: “I was promoted by Infinity Works and after 3 years I left with the skills of full stack engineering including my Infrastructure knowledge that was initially provided by the Generation Programme. Currently I am a Consultant for OpenCredo.”
Taking part in a Generation bootcamp has been a life-changing experience for Byron: “I’ve been fortunate enough to have stable employment, pay-rises and new job prospects. This has allowed me to maintain a positive attitude towards my peers and friends and be a positive example to other young adults. Since Generation I’ve been able to focus on my mental and physical health which adds to my happiness and I’ve also been able to move out into my own home.
Generation is a great programme and it changed my life.”
