Dylan | IT Support

Dylan, Junior Trade Floor Support Engineer

Before joining Generation, Dylan was working in hospitality and retail, trying to find a way into the tech industry while battling self-doubt and setbacks.

“Before joining the bootcamp, I was navigating between various roles in the retail and hospitality sector, struggling with my mental health, lack of motivation and trust in my ability to be successful.”

Dylan had strong sixth form results and was accepted to study Computer Science at university — twice. But financial pressures and challenges with mental health meant he had to withdraw both times.

“These experiences left me feeling defeated, especially because I had internalized the belief that university was the only path to success in tech. I felt lost and frustrated, unsure how to break into the industry without a degree or formal work experience.”

That changed when he found Generation’s IT Support programme, delivered in partnership with Capital City College Group at their Regent’s Park campus in London.

“The bootcamp was truly transformative. It gave me structure, direction, and most importantly restored my belief in myself. I developed not just technical skills – such as ticket management, remote troubleshooting, and cybersecurity fundamentals – but also crucial soft skills like professional communication, adaptability, and team collaboration.

The Generation team’s support, encouragement and feedback gave me the confidence to become more proactive, take initiative, and push myself further than I thought possible.”

Generation’s practical training, including role-play service desk scenarios and mock interviews, helped Dylan rebuild his confidence. He refined his CV, developed a strong LinkedIn presence, and made the most of networking opportunities with employers and industry professionals.

Shortly after graduating in June 2025, Dylan secured a role as a Junior Trade Floor Support Engineer at Square Global Markets, a boutique financial firm in Mayfair. He now provides direct IT support to traders, manages user accounts, and ensures high-performance systems with minimal downtime.

“I’m working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment — and I love it. In my first week, I visited a data centre and even helped configure a server rack. The training I got from Generation meant I could hit the ground running.”

Dylan is now working toward becoming a Senior Engineer and is already planning future certifications.

“This is my first office-based role, and it’s completely different from anything I’ve done before. Being surrounded by an experienced IT team is incredibly motivating.”

The impact has been life-changing — financially, professionally, and emotionally.

“Gaining employment has given me financial stability – I’m now able to pay my bills comfortably, start saving for the future, and even help support my family when they need it. This is the first time I’ve felt like I have real control over my finances, which is incredibly empowering.

Before getting this job, I often felt stuck and unsure of where I was heading. Now, I wake up with a sense of purpose. I feel valued, challenged, and part of something meaningful. That shift in mindset has been life-changing. Being able to confidently introduce myself as a tech professional i.e. Junior Trade Floor Support Engineer – something I used to dream of – still feels surreal and incredibly rewarding.”

Looking ahead, Dylan is excited about exploring cybersecurity and infrastructure, and eventually mentoring others breaking into tech — just like the Generation team did for him.

“It’s not just a job. It’s the start of a career I’m proud of.”
