Gracia | Data Analytics

From career uncertainty to impact-driven analytics at IRT Surveys

Gracia was determined to move into a meaningful and future-proof career after a previous role in housing and social care and over 6 months of unemployment — but like many career changers, she didn’t know where to begin.

“I had a strong interest in tech, but no formal qualifications in data or analytics. I wasn’t in a tech role and didn’t know how to break into the industry. It felt like there were invisible barriers between me and the opportunities I really wanted.

One of the biggest challenges I faced was not knowing how to break into the industry. I’d see job descriptions filled with unfamiliar tools and terms, and it was overwhelming. I lacked confidence and felt like I didn’t have the right experience or network to get my foot in the door. It was difficult to know what steps to take or who to turn to for support.”

During the Data Analytics bootcamp Gracia gained valuable insights into both technical and soft skills.

“Learning how to work with tools like Excel, SQL and Power BI was a turning point. I discovered that I really enjoyed making sense of messy datasets and using data to tell a story. At first, learning to code was challenging, but the structure of the programme — and the encouragement from my mentors — kept me going.”

After graduating, Gracia secured a role as a Junior Data Analyst at IRT Surveys. She now works with property data to support energy efficiency and sustainability upgrades for clients across the UK. Her role includes cleansing and validating datasets, generating insights, and working with thermal imaging data to detect issues like heat loss and insulation gaps.

“This role brings together everything I learned on the bootcamp. It’s hands-on and purpose-driven — I feel proud to be contributing to work that makes a difference in communities.”

Gracia’s employer commented:

“Gracia is fitting in well with the IRT team. Her enthusiasm, curiosity, and impact in just one month reflects the kind of talent and preparation Generation UK fosters. As a hiring manager, seeing someone hit the ground running — equipped not just with technical skills, but with a genuine passion for learning — is exactly what you hope for. We’re proud to support pathways like Generation that open doors for emerging talent and strengthen our teams in the process.”

Working in tech has transformed Gracia’s life — not just professionally, but personally.

“I’m in a better financial position and I’ve started saving for the future. I can support my loved ones, and I feel proud and fulfilled. The bootcamp helped me build resilience and confidence. For the first time, I feel like I’m building a career — not just working a job.

The potential for progression excites me — I can already see paths opening toward data analyst position and even AI integration with thermal imaging.”

Gaining this job changed how I see myself and what I’m capable of. I’m building something that matters.”
