Kelvin’s Journey from Construction to Healthcare
Kelvin, age 22 from Birmingham, completed Generation’s Healthcare Assistant Bootcamp in August 2025. Soon after, he successfully secured a role with Cygnet Healthcare, where he now supports individuals with autism and learning disabilities.
Before joining the programme, Kelvin worked in construction. He knew he wanted a change, but found it difficult to break into the healthcare sector. He didn’t have any experience or qualifications in the field, and faced multiple application rejections.
The bootcamp helped Kelvin build the knowledge and skills he needed to begin his new career.
“Generation’s bootcamp taught me everything I needed to secure a role in my new career path. The support and commitment from both learners and teachers made the learning experience really enjoyable.”
Since starting his role at Cygnet Healthcare, Kelvin has found a supportive and encouraging work environment where he is thriving.
“My colleagues are so helpful, and I feel supported every day. There are clear opportunities for me to continue developing my skills, take on new challenges, and build more confidence. It feels like there’s a bright future ahead.”
Kelvin’s new career has had a significant impact on his life, both financially and personally.
“Gaining employment has had a really positive impact on my life. Financially, it’s given me more stability. I’m now able to save for the future, which is something I couldn’t do before. For example, I’ve started putting money aside each month for emergencies and long-term goals. It’s also helped me support my family more. I can contribute to household bills and help out with things like school expenses or unexpected costs, which has taken a lot of pressure off everyone.
On a personal level, having a steady job has improved my confidence and mental wellbeing. Knowing I have a routine, a purpose, and a team that values my work has made me feel happier and more motivated day to day.”
